Reasons Why Tooth Extractions are Necessary
For the record, our team doesn’t take tooth extraction lightly. This removal work is a last resort – something we do when there’s no other choice. We’d rather perform root canals or dental crown placement, as they let you keep your teeth for biting, chewing, and smiling.
Due to these facts, tooth extractions are only necessary when a tooth (or teeth) can’t be saved. We only suggest and offer them if you suffer one (or more) of the following:
A tooth too decayed for a filling or crown
Dental trauma that’s damaged your enamel beyond repair
A jawbone severely weakened by gum disease
Dental crowding that
Stubborn baby teeth blocking adult ones

The Process of Removing a Tooth
Dr. Camenzuli will assess the at-risk tooth when you visit for your consultation. Based on his findings, he’ll then decide whether and what kind of extraction (if any) you need.
If the problem tooth is visible, we’ll likely perform a simple extraction. This type first numbs the treatment site with an anesthetic, ensuring you don’t feel pain. Dr. Camenzuli will then rock the tooth back and forth with dental forceps until it separates from your gums.
You’ll need a complex extraction if the tooth hasn’t fully erupted. For this second option, we’ll make an incision in your gums after numbing the treatment site. Our team will next open this space and divide and remove your tooth in sections, reducing the risk of bone loss. We’ll wrap things up by sewing the incision closed.
Whether you get a simple or complex extraction, we’ll plan how to replace the tooth after the removal. This step ensures you won’t suffer long-term oral health issues.

Tooth extractions normally go smoothly, but they still involve a recovery period. Your mouth will need time to heal and work through its aches once the anesthesia wears off. With that said, remember to use these post-op instructions while you recover:
While the extraction site is still healing, please don’t chew near it.
Use store-bought pain relievers as instructed to manage treatment aches.
Don’t drink from straws for a few days, as suction can dislodge your blood clot.
Don’t smoke tobacco or spit while healing; doing so would cause recovery delays.
